Fire Door Safety Week aims to raise awareness of one of the most critical fire safety elements in commercial buildings: fire doors. It was created by the BWF-CERTIFIRE Fire Door Scheme, along with the British Woodworking Federation and the United Kingdom Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS). The fire door safety initiative is designed to raise awareness of the role fire doors play in protecting people and businesses from the dangers of fire. Particular attention is being drawn to issues such as poor fire door installation and fire door inspections.  Building owners and users are being encouraged to properly check the condition of their fire doors – and repair or replace any that aren’t up to standard.

Fire Door Facts

About three million fire doors are bought and installed in the United Kingdom every single year. The vast majority of these are made from timber. Fire doors are designed to be one of the first lines of defence against smoke and fire. Fitting correctly specified and maintained fire doors can be the difference between life and death for a building’s occupant in the event of a fire. Fire doors are frequently neglected or downgraded, and they tend to be propped open and badly maintained which reduces their effectiveness.

Use a Fire Door Inspection System

Fire Door Safety Week aims to engage and educate people about the benefits of having a fire door inspection system. It hopes to make every property owner aware of the correct inspection and maintenance regime for their fire doors.
