Digital Strategy to make your business more efficient and profitable

Digital Strategy to make your business more efficient and profitableRecent research has shown that embedding business software, apps and services could save UK businesses 6 million hours and £2 billion per week. Can you afford to remain inefficient in a changing marketplace? No business is too small to benefit from a digital strategy. In fact, as technology continues to progress into every part of our lives, failing to have a digital strategy is effectively having no strategy at all.

Working More Efficiently Through Technology

Your digital strategy might be about having the right IT tools for the job, or it may involve giving employees smart phones so you can communicate more effectively in the field. It may be using software as a means of allowing people to work when and where they want – ‘Agile working’ – in order to make them more efficient. Perhaps you have legislative inspections that must be carried out and recorded. Or you may wish to include digital tools such as RFID systems as part of a Lean Management approach.

Hessle Golf Course Sponsorship by Digitalquill

Hessle Golf Course Sponsorship by DigitalquillGolf is one of the most popular pursuits for those who need a break from the boardroom. The most prestigious course near our base in East Yorkshire is Hessle Golf Course – and Digitalquill are proud to be the sponsors of the tenth hole, we are looking forward to a long term sponsorship at our local course, we may even look at sponsoring other events that are held there throughout the year.  We were particularly attracted to sponsor Hessle Golf club because of their use of mobile technology.

History of Hessle Golf Club

Hessle Golf Club was originally founded in 1898 and a six-hole course occupied part of an old quarry. In 1912 the golf course was moved to land adjacent to Hesslewood Hall and expanded to nine holes. In 1929 the course expanded to 18 holes – before part of the course was co-opted for the War effort. The building of the Humber Bridge meant that a new home had to be found in the early 1970s and the club moved to Raywell, where it remains to this day.

The Current Course

The current 18 hole, par 72 course offers an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all ages, with its moderately flat nature proving easy to walk. Practice facilities include a six-bay driving range, a short game area and practice greens for both chipping and putting. The full course measures 6,608 yards, with all of the greens meeting USGA Standard. This allows the course to be played in all weathers.

Golf and Technology: Hand In Hand

We felt we were the perfect fit with Hessle Golf course because of their refreshingly modern approach to the use of technology: For example the course has a mobile app with GPS for Android or iPhone. The app offer a course flyover; can pinpoint your location on the course; and can even help you to calculate your shot distances.

yahoo hack

yahoo-hackLast week the internet giant Yahoo admitted that back in 2014, “state-sponsored” hackers stole data from their servers. The data included personal information on about 500 million users in what is being described as be the largest cyber-breach ever.

The stolen data includes not only names and email address, but also unencrypted security questions and answers – all of which is now on sale to the highest bidder. Over eight million user accounts in the UK are believed to have been compromised.

Don’t Rely on Free Internet Services

The hack serves as yet another reminder that businesses are unwise if they rely on large, public services such as these. After this, and the recent hack of Dropbox data, we have been contacted by dozens of concerned businesses who want a more secure solution to safeguard their precious business data.

Password Best Practice

It will not protect you from a hack where passwords are stolen in an unencrypted form, but password best practice is always important:

  • Don’t use a password that can easily be guessed – such as a child’s name or date of birth
  • Never share any of your passwords with anyone else
  • Make sure your password is at least ten characters in length
  • Use at least one uppercase character and symbol each time
