Finding Your Perfect Niche
Finding a niche is probably the most difficult, but also most important tasks that you face as an affiliate marketer. It is this course of action that will mean your project is either a success or that it just fizzles out without doing anything.
What is a niche
Put simply, a niche is a sector of the market, it could be identified with a product, a service, an idea or subject, an event, pass time or activity. It is the word that describes the market that we are going to work in.
Whats the problem?
The problem with finding a niche is that there are so many people like you looking for that golden egg, just search for ‘Credit Card’ for example and you will see millions of results with some very big players spending millions on marketing right at the top.
Its not all bad news
Just because the whole of the internet seems to be saturated with people promoting everything from credit cards to garden tools, does not mean that you cannot find a niche that you can work in and become very successful in.
This is where finding a niche gets interesting. The perfect niche for you is not the perfect niche for me, a niche you will be successful in, it is probable that I would not be successful in. Let me explain
The prefect niche of an individual is one they are interested in, knowledgeable about and keen to work in. This knowledge and interest will be critical to you when you come to create and market your site. You are going to need to be able to write withy authority on you subject, engage in conversation of forums, blogs and social media about your niche, so unless you are interested and knowledgeable about it, people will see right through you and the promotion of your site will fail
In addition if you find something you are interested in, you are much more likely to keep working at that niche, even when the success does not come as soon as you had hoped.
A good quality Niche
Having said all that about finding a niche you are interested in, you still have to make sure that others are interested in it too, after all you want there to be people to sell to right?
Google has some good tools available for you here, its keyword research tool lets you see how many people have searched for a particular keyword or term in the last month, it also shows you how competitive that keyword term is giving you an idea of how many others are operating in that niche.
How to find your perfect niche.
I always start out with a brain storming session, take a large piece of paper and write down all the things you are interested in, off those spiral ideas about sections of that subject you could write about.
Do some research on the internet, find out if anyone else is writing about your niches, use the Google keyword tool to find out how many people search for keywords relating to your niche.
Once you have done that you will have a good idea of which you want to choose.
Once you have chosen don’t look back, push forward, there is no reason you cannot be successful even in a crowded market place, just find your angle, what others are not doing or doing badly and make sure you do it better or provide something different.
